Ann McCormack has an MFA in Directing & a PhD in Theatre Education and is a proud member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA & The UFT! Most recently, though, she's been hosting the Water Street Barn concerts in Shelburne Falls, MA & offering music & theatre workshops for the Hilltown communities. Until December of 2022, she was the Producer & Host - for 10 years - of Groovin’ on a Sunday, a monthly variety show at 53 Above & Don't Tell Mama, cabaret clubs in NYC. She's also had the pleasure of directing & coaching singer/actors - in-person and online. She's currentlly developing a program of story songs "Fair & Tender Ladies".
A longtime student of Uta Hagen & the RSC voice coach, Cicely Berry, Ann turns to their styles when coaching actors & singers. She's had many opportunities to explore & develop these practices with adults & teens at HB Studio, the Ed Theatre Program at NYU, & the Speech Dept at Brooklyn College.
When given a chance to direct a performance at NYU, Ann invited artists to bring a story or song in English or another language. The tales & songs were amazing & from them, the company created a project called Patchwork: Stories, Songs & Children's Games From Around The World, a multi-lingual celebration of World Folklore. They traveled to theaters, outdoor festivals, & classrooms throughout New York City & at Soongsil University, Seoul, So. Korea. This pic was of the East River Theatre Co performing @ Tribeca Film Fest. All this work led to my teaching Theatre Arts at Brooklyn International High School where all of the students were recent immigrants & wow, did Ms Ann learn alot from her wonderful and creative students & colleagues!
